Résumé : Cet article s’intéresse à la création des Conseils Municipaux de Jeunes au Cameroun sous l’angle de l’envers des dispositifs de participation publique : le désengagement de la majorité des jeunes invités à participer. Au travers d’une approche ethnographique croisant les techniques qualitatives, il s’agit d’interroger les ressorts du (dés)engagement des jeunes au sein des dispositifs participatifs à partir du Conseil Municipal Jeune (CMJ) de la commune de Dschang (région de l’Ouest-Cameroun) comme cas d’étude. L’analyse des données de l’enquête met en exergue deux principaux résultats. Le premier résultat montre des formes différenciées de non-engagement et d’engagement du public participatif de ce dispositif. L’on distingue trois figures à savoir : les participants réguliers, les participants intermittents et les non-participants. Le deuxième résultat met en exergue une pluralité de motifs de désengagement des membres de ce Conseil. Au regard de ces résultats obtenus, ce travail contribue à poser les jalons d’une sociologie politique de la participation du public des jeunes dans les dispositifs à eux dédiés. Il ouvre également une diversité d’angles de la question, sur lesquels se consacrera la suite de nos travaux.

Abstract : Abstract : This article looks at the creation of Youth Municipal Councils from the angle of the flip side of public participation mechanisms: the disengagement of the majority of young people invited to participate. Using an ethnographic approach based on qualitative techniques, this article looks at the reasons for young people’s (dis)involvement in participatory mechanisms, using the youth municipal council in the commune of Dschang (West Cameroon region) as the site of investigation. The analysis of the survey data highlights two main results. The first result shows differentiated forms of non-engagement and engagement of the participating public in this scheme. Three figures can be distinguished: regular participants, intermittent participants and non-participants. The second result highlights a plurality of reasons for disengagement of the members of this council. In view of these results, this work contributes to laying the groundwork for a sociology of the participation of young people in the mechanisms dedicated to them. It also opens up a variety of angles to the question, which will be the focus of our further work.
